Hi. I'm Danny.
I am a lifelong woodworker with a completely outfitted shop. I have made hundreds of model toys over the decades and have never sold one. The act of giving to family, friends and charitable organizations for silent auctions and fund raisers has been my passion.
I am excited to share my experiences with guests in my workshop nestled in the woods of Nevada County.
Woodworking Experience
Come learn how to make your own wooden toys in this full-day woodworking experience.
What's Included
All you need! We will provide all of the power and hand tools and wood necessary to build a movable heirloom wooden toy to take home or gift to a loved one. Shop safety and equipment, proper use of power cutters, drills and sanders will be included as part of the experience.
Cost
$70/person
This includes the experience plus all of the materials used to create your toy you are encouraged to take home.

The Experience
The shop will be set up for all levels of woodworkers, from novice to advanced, to read plans, prepare wood parts, use power and hand tools, glue/assemble your choice of vehicles (Model T, Paddlewheel boat, Biplane or Steam Locomotive) and take home your creation.
Participants are invited to stay at our Vacation Rental units here on our 30 acre, woodsy, very private, energy-charging property. Links to our units can booked separately here.
This experience will be a total of approximately 5-6 hours in the workshop. Depending upon whither you want to build the toys from the beginning or use some prepared parts, your activity can be either 1 or 2 days.
The morning will begin with 2-3 hours in the shop cutting, shaping and gluing parts for your chosen toy. The remaining time will be free for guests to explore our property or discover the historical Nevada County countryside.
To allow time for the glue to dry, you will have a several of hours of private time to:

visits some of the wonderful offerings of Nevada County

hike on established trails through the woods here or in the surrounding area

walk down to the year-round creek on our property

pick vegetables from our large garden for a luncheon salad

soak in our hot tub overlooking the canyon and creek

or simply relax in hammocks or patio furniture at the creek or on the deck
The afternoon would be another hour or 2 in the shop and then call it a day.
If you have chosen to make this a 2 day activity, the next day would require a few hours to finish the assembly and take your creations home.
Please note that when working around power tools it is highly recommended that you wear closed shoes and have no loose hanging jewelry or long shirt sleeves that may get snagged in the machines.
